Background:
USF's student union, the Marshall Student Center, opened in 1960 and is one of the original buildings to the university. Over the last 46 years USF has grown significantly and is in need of a new student union to support the substantial developments USF has undergone. Students in 2003 realized this and supported a fee increase to finance and endorse a plan to build a 230,000 square foot new union. The new building is incorporating sustainable design elements, visit the project web site for more information.
Timeline:
The building is scheduled to open in August of 2008 and everyone can begin to enjoy the space and services the new union will provideas the outdoor courtyard is still being built.
The current Marshall Student Center building will be demolished during the Fall 2008 semester so the south entrance of the new building will not be usable during that time. Then, in November and December of 2008 the enhanced plaza will be constructed. With the completion of those elements, the project is scheduled to be finished in its entirety by January of 2009.
