CONSTRUCTION UPDATES

Week of October 9, 2006

  • The demolition contractor continues to remove the debris, recycle the metals and reusable materials, and crush the concrete for backfill material. With each passing the day the SEC is becoming just a memory as its physical presence disappears. The entire site should be cleared in about two weeks.
  • The activity of the heavy equipment digging holes and trenches for the new domestic and chilled water lines seems to be growing every day. Work on these infrastructure elements should go on throughout the month.
  • The Northeast entrance of the Marshall Student Center will be closed tomorrow as there will be construction activity in that area to tie in some water lines. People entering the Marshall Student Center will be redirected to enter the Marshall Student Center via the south entrances. This work was scheduled for Saturday to disrupt the community as little as possible.
  • The construction fence along the southwest perimeter has been extended further south so that the construction firm can work on sanitary, electrical, and communication tie-ins. The golf cart parking area located in the southwest corner of the Marshall Student Center has now been moved further west of its old location. Cart parking for the next 18 months will be parked in the grassy area between the two pedestrian sidewalks just in front of the southeast corner of Theater II.

FYI - We have released new renderings of the new Marshall Student Center design
